"In Exile: A Family Film"

In Exile: A Family Film s about the life stories of the filmmaker's grandparents, parents, aunt, and friends, all of who arrived in Mexico as refugees of the wrongly termed Spanish Civil War. Their stories intertwine with Spain's, and Mexico's.

THE MAYA IN REGINA, a documentary that takes you from Saskatchewan to Guatemala, to discover the connection between the indigenous beliefs of many Latin American Immigrants and the Canadian First Nations. Adjunct Professor, Global Chair at University of Regina, Leonzo Barreno, came to Canada in 1989 to study at the The First Nations University in Saskatchewan. Join him on his personal journey from Guatemala to Saskatchewan to uncover the similarities between these two groups, how the Europeans influenced their lives, the importance of education for the new generation, the respect for elder leaders, and their deep bond with the land.

Micro / Music Block

-Entre Nos: Entre Nos is a spanish-lanuguage animated series about one family's path to acceptance of their gay son. The series of short episodes follow one Latinx family as they learn about their gay son's sexual orientation and begin to learn more about the intersection of LGBTQ and Latinx communities. The series tackles issues of coming out, family acceptance, religion, conversion therapy, and gender.

-Happy Valentine's Day
A 10 year old girl is making a Valentines Day card for her crush, her mother wants to know for who, so she snatches it from her daughter to discover it's not what she thinks.

-I Can Only Dream
This song is from the film "Luces", where the singer asks a dangerous gangster for a job and finally falls in love with his bodyguard.

-La Revancha Del Bastardo Que Come Pasta Con Aceite De Sesamo
Love is a mystery and when a woman's hungry, you never know what she'll do to get what she wants.

-Move On

-Swamp Killer
Swamp Killer is the story of a beautiful screenwriter who joins a film production deep in the swamps. There, an elusive creature terrorizes the crew while being fascinated by her. This film will have bikers, babes, gore, humor, and Heart!

"1950: The Nationalist Uprising"
Documentary Feature

Five Puerto Ricans who participated in the Nationalist Uprising of 1950 to free Puerto Rico from the United States of America, speaks about the history of this forgotten struggle and the consequences in their lives.

"The Other Dreamers"
Documentary Short

Documentary short exploring the cultural shock and mental anguish endured by US 'Dreamers' forced to return to their birthplace by circumstances or deportation.

A woman escapes her dangerously abusive husband and seeks refuge with a sister that doesn't want to get involved.

"Four Latinas Walk Into a Restaurant"
English-Language Short

When a young career woman treats her rowdy Mexican family to a fancy Beverly Hills lunch, she must choose whether or not to stand up for the people who embarrass her most when they get into a confrontation with a rich white couple.

"Tin Can"
English-Language Short

J.C. came to America as an illegal immigrant when he was just a child. Now, as an adult, he's still an illegal alien but has managed to persevere and prosper working as a rodeo clown. However, after a series of unfortunate events, J.C. finds himself down on his luck and in search for a new happiness. He eventually finds it near the Mexican border but the price he pays could get him kicked out of the only country he knows.

"La Muneca Fea"
Documentary Feature

Twenty-five elderly and active sex workers in Mexico City, between the ages of sixty and ninety, seek peace and community behind the walls of Casa Xochiquetzal, a shelter established for them by a former colleague and friend. The home is named for the Aztec goddess of flowers, beauty and sexual love. The family of women created within this refuge support each other as they attempt to heal from decades of abuse and neglect. Just as it seems that they have finally found a safe place to live out the rest of their lives, their stability is threatened by internal and external pressures that develop in and around Casa Xochiquetzal.

"Detroit's Rivera"
Short Documentary

Documentary on Diego Rivera´s 1933 frescos about Fordist production at the River Rouge Factory in Detroit, USA. The documentary is a montage based on archival film footage and printed materials documenting the labor conditions under industrial capitalism during the Great Depression. Animation of Frida Kahlo´s Detroit paintings provide an alternative, critical view of the ecological and social effects of industrial production and Fordism. Sound design and original music.
